With the exception of residents in the Oyster Bay – East Norwich Central School District (see below), Upper Brookville has no library. However, there are many options available to residents.
New York Public Library – Free Access
Upper Brookville Residents are entitled a free New York Public Library Card. The library card is your key to the resources and services of all New York Public Library locations in the Bronx, Manhattan and Staten Island. In addition to borrowing library materials, your card allows you to download digital media for free from your home, search hundreds of electronic databases, and more. This includes more than 300,000 e-books, 1,000 audiobooks available—from children’s books to bestsellers and over 800,000 digitized items. For example, the ProQuest Historical Newspaper database has articles from the nation’s papers dating from 1764-2009. They are searchable online and can be printed and downloaded.
To Apply you must either live, work, attend school or pay property tax in New York State. You first create a temporary online account that will remain active for three months. To fully validate your account for a three-year period, email proof of address to patronaccounts@nypl.org.

NASSAU LIBRARY SYSTEM ACCESS CARD
The Nassau Library System Access Card allows Upper Brookville residents to borrow materials from the member libraries listed below.
There are some limitations:
Because Upper Brookville residents are not currently taxed for local library service, the State has approved some limitations on their use. For example, libraries with a high volume of use by individuals who reside outside of their taxing areas are not required to loan recently acquired books or audiovisual materials (videos, CD’s, books-on-cassette, etc.) to non-local residents.
In order to apply for a card, you must go in person to either the East Meadow or Levittown Libraries*. You will need to provide proof of your identity and residency in Upper Brookville. You will also be asked to indicate the school district in which you reside. Most Upper Brookville residents are in the Locust Valley School District. Please be sure to bring one of the following original forms of identification with you when you go to the East Meadow or Levittown Public Libraries to register. To be acceptable, an ID must include your name and current address.
- NYS Photo Drivers License/Permit/Non-Driver ID
- NYS Motor Vehicle Registration
- Property Tax Bill
- Lease, Rental Agreement or Mortgage Papers
- Voter Registration Card
- Bank Statement
- School ID Cards
- Other Bills
- If you have a disability that makes it difficult to go in person, contact the Nassau Library System, Office of Outreach Services at 292-8920, extension 236.
